What is Autoclaved Aerated Concrete?
Check this out:
Aerated concrete, also known as aircrete, is a lightweight, air-entrained material made from quartz sand and/or fly ash, lime, cement, gypsum, water, and aluminum. It is steam-cured in autoclaves and contains up to 85% air by volume. Available in various densities and strength classes, it is used for both structural and non-structural applications.
Suitable Climates: Performs well across climates with proper design considerations.
Hot Climates: Excellent thermal insulation and breathability keep interiors cool and reduce energy use.
Cold Climates: Good insulation and frost resistance help retain indoor heat, though freeze-thaw durability can be a concern.
Humid/Tropical Climates: Closed-cell structure resists moisture and mold; surface treatments help prevent cracking from temperature swings.
Benefits: Lightweight, highly customizable, excellent thermal and sound insulation, fire- and termite-resistant, easy to handle and install, and allows fast construction. Resistant to mold, mildew, rot, and pests. Easy to cut and modify for pipes, conduits, and other utilities.
Drawbacks: Lower structural strength without reinforcement, must be finished for protection, and may not be widely available.
Applications: Suitable for walls, slabs, beams, roofs, columns, cladding, and non-load-bearing floors.
