Fabric (natural and synthetics)

General Materials

Sustainability:

Sustainably sourced fabric best comes from fabric made with natural fibers, this also mitigates mircoplastic risks.

Potential Chemical Exposure:

The heath risks with fabric comes down to microplastics and exposure to the dyes that can be used in fabric. Synthetic textiles release microplastics during the washing process, and some dyes pose a risk of skin irritation. It is best to use natural fibers and avoid washing fabrics when unnecesary to avoid these risks.

Safe Handling Recommendations:

Fabric carries a similar concern regarding dyes, this risk is persistent after the manufacturing process as well. Avoiding fabrics made using synthetic materials is also important, especially since the washing process contributes to the release of microplastics.

Eco-Friendly Alternatives:

Using fabrics of natural fibers, especially recycled natural fibers, are the best way to make a more eco concious choice.

Sources - DIY or Retail:

Using old fabric in ones or anothers house or thrifted fabircs are a good way to get fabric is a sustainable way. Natural fiber fabrics can be purchased through online stores or in person, being sure to pay attention to the fabric composition.
