Sustainability:

Plastic is not a natural material and does not biodegrade, and contributes to microplastics in the environment. For this reason it cannot be considered a very sustainable option for crafting. It is significantly better to use recycled or upcycled plastic in crafts rather than purchasing new.

Potential Chemical Exposure:

Working with plastics causes exposure to PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals", and microplastics.

Safe Handling Recommendations:

Be sure to minimize direct exposure with plastic when working with it. Try not to touch the plastic directly.

Eco-Friendly Alternatives:

Paints, glass, markers, wood, and many other supplies can creatively take the place of plastics in crafting.

Sources - DIY or Retail:

Plastic and the many things that can replace it can be found within the house or easily purchased in most craft stores.
