Sustainability:

Since plastic gems are made of synthetic non biodegradable plastic materials and tend to use adhesives with synthetic chemicals as well, they are not the most sustainable material to use for crafts.

Using biodegradable glitter or other naturals materials such as dried flowers, paper confetti, or mica are good eco friendly alternatives to consider.

Sources - DIY or Retail:

Plastic gems and alternatives can easily be purchased, and if deciding to get plastic gems try to get ones made of recycled materials when possible.
