Sustainability:

Polymer clay is made of PVC resin powder, which is essentially a synthetic plastic that does not biodegrade. This makes it not a very sustainable choice, and the phthalates found in the clay have been linked to endocrine disruption in wildlife. The clay also contributes to microplastics in the environment when it fragments.

Potential Chemical Exposure:

Toxic gasses, such as hydrochloric acid vapor and carbon monoxide can be released if the polymer clay is heated too much due to the PVC in the clay burning.

Safe Handling Recommendations:

When using polymer clay, ensure it is fully cured after baking and bake between 212 and 300 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure toxic gasses aren't released.

Eco-Friendly Alternatives:

Natural earth clays, plant based air dry clays, and salt dough are the best options for eco friendly clays to use instead.
