Sustainability:

Silicon manufacturing requires non renewable resources although the actual materials needed to make silicon are renewable. It is a good plastic alternative in the sense that it is a lot stronger than most other plastics and lasts a lot longer. It does however pollute soil when discarded in landfills, making silicon only somewhat sustainable overall.

Recycled or reused silicones are the best choice, and silicones can be replaced by the same materials that can replace other plastics depending on the nature of the craft.
