Synthetic Resin

Sustainability:

Synthetic resins are made of non renewable resources, are not biodegradable, their production releases a significant amount of greenhouse gasses, and they release VOC during manufacturing and during use. These factors make it to where synthetic resins are not a very sustainable choice.

Potential Chemical Exposure:

VOC exposure and exposure to skin irritants and lungs are risks with synthetic resins.

Safe Handling Recommendations:

Be sure to use masks, eye protection, and gloves when working with resin and work in a well ventilated area. Be sure to handle spills with absorbent materials and clean with isopropyl alcohol.

Eco-Friendly Alternatives:

Bio based, water based, and UV-curable resins are all more eco friendly alternatives to synthetic resins as they use less synthetic chemicals and emit less amounts of VOCs.

Sources - DIY or Retail:

UV curable resin can be purchased in many generic craft stores as an alternative that has less negative health impacts as regular synthetic resin.
