1st ECO ACTION CHALLENGE MINI COURSE

Learn how local decisions shape environmental and climate outcomes and how you can influence them. Only a small percentage of Americans actively participate in sustainability, environmental, and climate-related civic engagement, even though the vast majority believe climate change and numerous environmental issues are a serious threat. This course explores why that gap exists and how everyday people can help close it. Participants learn how environmental action, advocacy, and policy work together to shape real-world outcomes. The course examines the systems that influence inaction, including social norms, misinformation, and institutional barriers, and clarifies what truly makes sustainability strategies effective. Through real-world case studies and practical examples, learners see how local organizing, public participation, and policy engagement drive lasting change. By the end of the course, participants understand their personal pathway to impact, whether as a Doer, Advocate, or Strategist, and leave with concrete ways to engage in their own communities, from respectful advocacy to meaningful participation in local government processes.
