Our journey started back in the early 1970s when a group of passionate individuals came together during the environmental and sustainability movement. They dreamt of a place where the values of environmental responsibility, community, and wholesome living could flourish.
From these humble beginnings as a buying club, they've grown into a full-fledged retail store that's dedicated to promoting organic and sustainable practices.

They're proud to support local farmers, offering fresh, seasonal produce while reducing the carbon footprint of long-distance food transportation. When you shop here, you're not just buying groceries; you're investing in your community and the environment.

Whole Earth Center’s commitment to sustainability runs deep. They've earned LEED certification for our building expansion, leading the way in environmentally responsible construction in the area. They were the first retailer in Princeton to install solar panels, harnessing clean energy from the sun and setting an example for others to follow. Even though it costs a bit more, they also purchase energy from New Jersey Wind because they believe in reducing their carbon footprint.

Inside the store, you'll find a "zero waste" bulk department, reducing packaging waste one refill at a time. They're passionate about reducing food waste too, rescuing delicious organic produce with minor imperfections that would otherwise go to waste.

Whole Earth Center’s commitment extends beyond their walls. They actively engage with the
community by sponsoring the Princeton Environmental Film Festival and promoting eco-friendly transportation as a Bike-Friendly Workplace.
